The CAR/LAR feature, if enabled by your FI, streamlines the check scanning process by attempting to determine the amount and fill the Amount field for each item. The IQA feature, if enabled by your FI, ensures a check image will meet or exceed industry standards by performing image quality tests. With CAR/LAR, you have the option of running the process automatically or manually. With the automatic mode, items are scanned in succession with a defined pause time between each scan so you can review the amount, if necessary. The Auto Scan and Save mode is ideal for users who need to scan groups of checks and intend to accept the scanned MICR and CAR/LAR data. If you scan single items or tend to add data to the transaction page, the Manual Scan and Save mode would probably work best.
Note: If you have the capability to enter a New Threshold value for CAR/LAR, you should consider the ramifications of this number carefully. A high threshold value increases the accuracy of the accepted results, but it also decreases the number of accepted results. Conversely, a low threshold value increases the number of accepted results, but it also decreases the accuracy of those results.
