The Courtesy Amount Recognition/Legal Amount Recognition (CAR/LAR) feature of the application enhances the check scanning process by reading and storing the printed or handwritten courtesy and legal amounts on a check. With CAR/LAR activated, the Amount field is pre-populated on the transaction scan page for the user's review.
To arrive at the amount, the application scans the check, cross-validates the amounts, and assigns a score, or level of certainty, to the result. If this level of certainty meets or exceeds the threshold established for the category, the CAR/LAR result appears in the Amount field, and the application is ready for the next item. If the level of certainty is within 10 points lower than the threshold, the result appears in the Amount field, and the application displays a message that includes the score so the user knows to verify the amount. If the level of certainty is 11 points or more lower than the threshold or if the scan could not determine a result, the Amount field remains blank, and the application displays a message directing the user to enter the amount.
With CAR/LAR enabled, you also have the option to run the scanning process in automatic mode, which scans an item, displays the image and information for quick review, saves the item, and then scans/requests the next item, depending on your scanner. If you need additional time to review an item, you may temporarily interrupt the process by using hot keys: the spacebar halts the process, and the Enter key continues the process. The Enter key may also be used in the same manner as the Save & Scan Another Check command if you are scanning items in manual mode.
