About ACH Alertâ„¢ COPS

Note: ACH Alert COPS may not apply to your organization; your FI enables this service.

Preventing corporate account takeover schemes is a top concern to your FI, as well as to the participants in the ACH Network. Credit Origination Positive-Pay Services (COPS), provided by the risk management organization, ACH Alert, is a process that validates ACH credits to help monitor the application for fraudulently created transactions. The service analyzes transactions created and submitted under the categories and merchants for which it is enabled, and notifies customer users when it detects a recipient who has never previously received a credit through the system.

At that point, only a supervisor or administrative merchant user may log in to ACH Alert to confirm the R/T and account number combination. This "out-of-band" authentication of unusual transactions represents an important facet of the layered security approach that the FFIEC recommends.

Note: If you change a category alias or subcategory name in the application after ACH Alert COPS has been configured, the name will not match what appears in that service. You will need to contact the service or your FI to make this change.
